Ghibli Test

This is footage from a documentary about the creation of Studio Ghibli's film, Princess Mononoke. During the process, a few inbetweeners took a test to be promoted to key frame animators. The scene they had to do was very difficult and the results were interesting.

To add to that, here's a video of Miyazaki himself animating a scene where the main character takes a tumble. The comments he makes are so interesting and he tries so many different approaches for a scene that's only about 1.5 seconds long.

Nicholas Was...

Finally got one storyboard finished! I started this a year ago when Neil Gaiman released the audio as a free download and suggested that anyone who wants to use it for something creative to go ahead and do so. It was a good way to practice storyboarding and doing some basic traditional animation in Flash. Any thoughts or comments are well appreciated! :D

Miyazaki Running Scenes

Thought this would be fun to post up, someone edited together a lot of the running scenes that were in Hayao Miyazaki's films and tv series. I really love these, the runs are so unique to every character and situation.

Swf to Mov Converter?

Hi guys, does anyone know of a good program that will convert swf files to mov/avi/mp4 files for Mac? Exporting mov files from Flash somehow screws up the timing of my animation and wrecks the audio something awful. It doesn't have to be free, but not freakishly expensive either.

Thanks!

Proof of Life!!!

I am alive!!! but lazy as can be... and apparently I punched 12 sheets inaccurately and this is how I used them.

It took me half way through making these to realize why the sheet doesn't say any even digits

And this took me four sheets... I'll try better next time

1942 Bee animation- just for fun

Here's an animated short from 1942 by Hans Fischerkoesen, who did a lot of animated ads and some shorts (check the fantastic camera moves):

Here's an article about his subversive use of animation in Nazi Germany:

24 Frames Animated Reviews 01- Pryde of the X-men

This is the first episode in a new web series I'm doing where I discuss and review animated movies and shows. Its also the first time I've ever used toon boom for any form of cut out animation. I'm already experimenting with ways to make it smoother while moving in a short time frame. Any feedback you guys can give will be very much appreciated.

11 Second Club April competiton

So, I finished the 11 Sec. club this month. I started very late on it. I finished this in a week and a half. I used a lot of holds, but tried to utilize overlapping action to make it not very noticeable. I think it turned out pretty well. Enjoy!!

Calvin and Hobbes Final

This was my final for the TAB 01 class. It was based on a panel of a Calvin and Hobbes comic. Enjoy!!

Doug's Nutsville Dialogue Final

http://vimeo.com/22469573

Here's the link. I think it turned out pretty good. The first arm swing is very fast, but when I scanned and tested it at work, it wasn't as fast. Not sure what happened, I think it's a problem with Pencil Check, and Flipbook. But I switched it to 1's because on 2's it was way too slow. The lip sync turned out pretty well, not my best, but still good. Let me know what you think!! Enjoy.

Tom (TR) Dancing Loop

This is a 20 frame loop of "skanking", you know... How you dance to ska. It's all on ones with the exception of two extremes that hold on twos. I shot terrible reference footage of myself doing this.

American Animation Institute is getting ready to publish the summer schedule of classes. Summer Animation Classes (TAB 1 & 2) will probably start on Saturday, June 11, 2011. But don't contact the Guild yet. Please wait until the catalogue is finally published. Let your friends know too.
